Being stressed is a normal part of life. Even so, stress should not be permitted to take over our lives. Taking control of stress and not letting it overwhelm you can be just a matter of determination and proper technique. Here is some advice about reducing your stress levels.

Consider getting a pet as a way to relieve stress. Having a dog waiting for you at home with his tail wagging can be a great boost after a hard, stressful day at work. Even jut have a fish can really improve your mood. But don’t take on a pet if you’re not going to be able to care for it.

During the course of the day, try to consume at least eight glasses of water if you want to reduce the level of stress that you face. Water helps to reduce the amount of toxins in your body, which can make you feel fresher and more hydrated as the day wears on.

Make sure that if you are staring at a computer at work for the majority of the day, to get up and stretch your body. Stretching is really important, as remaining stagnant for the greater part of the day can increase stress levels. Move around and chat with co-workers to improve how you feel.

Commit yourself to a hobby you love. Hobbies have the ability to take your mind off of the day’s stressors. Plus, many hobbies are also active in nature, making them doubly powerful in reducing stress. Quite a few people swear by the perspective that stepping back and partaking in a hobby gives them on their stressful tasks at hand. They often come back to the task with refreshed energy and even creative solutions that seemingly appeared out of the blue!

Get up and go outside for some fresh air and sunshine to help relieve stress. If you are inside an office all day or cooped up inside the house, go outside for a few minutes and see the sun and take in some fresh air. Even a small amount of time outside can help improve your mood and will work on helping you relax.

If you have extra time to spare grab a pencil or pen and start drawing or doodling on a piece of paper. This will tap into your creative side and let your mind wander alleviating the stresses that you may have. Draw a picture or random designs to help feel better.



Stress is given the nickname of the silent killer. This is because many people do not even realize that it is something dangerous and so they take no actions to try and reduce it. The truth is that stress release cortisol, a chemical which accelerates your heart rate eventually leading to heart problems.

If you’re feeling stressed out, one fantastic cure is laughter. Do something silly with your family. Throw a water balloon. Watch a funny movie or some stand-up comedy. Laughing half an hour every day can have a dramatic improvement on your overall outlook and reduce your stress immensely.

When trying to get rid of stress, here is a very important and simple tip that many people seem to forget about. To easily combat stress, simply get a good night’s sleep. Sleep refreshes your mind and body and replenishes energy. Naps are also effective at doing this.

Be wary of prescription drugs. While various prescription drugs like Valium, Xanax, and Ativan are often prescribed to treat the symptoms of anxiety, these drugs might actually have a counterproductive effect on our reaction to stress. Just as is the case with common drugs like alcohol and tobacco, prescription drugs can actually make us more sensitive to stressful events.

There are some occasions that your life could be a bit overstressed because of the lack of balance between the things that you do in your life. If you spend too much time working and getting stressed out about the job, you need to find a way to take some time away from that job here and there.

Stay focused on one thing at a time. Focus your mind on only one goal to be accomplished at once. Large projects are more stressful because there are more decisions to make. If you can break that one large project down into little projects and focus on them individually you will be able to tackle the task at hand with less stress.

Categorize your stress. Put your stress into two categories – things you have control over and things you have no control over. Try to let go of the things that you can’t control. For the things that you can actively change, make a plan of action and try to stick to it.

A great tip that can help you relieve a bit of stress is to clench your fists as hard as you can for five seconds. You’ll be surprised at how calm you feel after performing this simple activity. You can also do this anywhere as people probably won’t notice.

To make your day run more smoothly, tackle the most stressful tasks you have to complete first. Getting the worst parts of your day out of the way immediately will give you a sense or relief, and will make minor tasks much easier to complete. You also have more energy at the start of your day, which makes challenging tasks easier to get through.

Talking to someone about the stress you’re feeling, can help you feel much better. You might find that the person you’re talking to can help you think of ways to de-stress, or help you come up with ways to solve any problems that you might be having.

Making the effort to keep stress as a minor annoyance, instead of a major one, takes time. Tuck these tips away for a time when you’re experiencing stress, and then you’ll feel more in control of your feelings. Don’t let stress take over your life; use these tips to deal with it.
