Discover Helpful Strategies For Coping With Stress

How many times have you gotten angry at yourself for misplacing your keys, being late to meet a friend, or forgetting to pay a bill on time? Being angry at ourselves can be one of the most stressful experiences there is. We are our own worst critic. Trying to change this behavior for the better, even a little bit, can help you feel happier and less stressed. Try some of the following tips to get started.

If you have ever heard the saying that laughter is the best medicine, it’s true! A great way to reduce stress is simply to laugh. Laughter is nature’s way of reducing the levels of stress hormones in your body. Along with reducing stress hormones, laughter also increases the good hormones in your body like endorphins and neurotransmitters, all of which help to make us happy.

Avoid factory farmed meats, eggs and dairy products. These products are filled with adrenaline due to the horrible cruelty experienced by the animals. Excess adrenaline will raise your levels of the stress hormone, Cortisol. This will cause you to experience excess stress levels, decreasing your level of overall health and happiness.

In order to keep your stress level under control, it would be wise to try to find something along the lines of a hobby that you can engage yourself in. This is important because if you are not able to do so, it is a key sign that you may need professional help due to depression.

When you work for the greater part of your life, you may not have time to treat yourself. One of the things that you should do at least once during the week is to get a manicure or a pedicure. This will make you feel good about your body and relieve your tension.

Learn how to breath fully using your diaphragm. As practice, breath through your nose, and watch your belly increase in size. Hold the breath for a few seconds before releasing. These deep breaths fully oxygenate your blood, relaxing you quite quickly! In fact, it’s been found that the opposite, short breathes, can speed up your heart beat, tighten your muscles and increase your stress!

Be silly! Acting a little silly or crazy can remove you from a stressful situation. Do something that makes you laugh and helps you to forget about your stress for a few minutes. Research shows that smiling and laughing, even if it is fake can help to take some stress away.

A good tip that can help you keep your stress levels down is to simply surround yourself with positive, happy people. Being around negative people all the time will have an influence on you whether you know it or not. Try to be around positive people as much as you can.

Deep breathing techniques can put you back in control of any stressful event. Take a deep breath, clear your mind, and then continue with dealing with the situation. Being able to calm down can help you be rational and productive rather than becoming defensive and frustrated.

A good tip that can help you reduce stress is to stop multitasking and just focus on doing one thing at a time. Multitasking might save you time but you’ll end up with a big headache. Avoid all the stress by just focusing on finishing one task at once.

Multitasking is a stress magnet. Many people consider multitasking to be a skill that only certain people have, but in reality, it is just the cause of an extraordinary amount of stress. Some people can better cope with stress but if you are not one of those people, do not multitask.

Limit the amount of caffeine that you take in during the day. Caffeine will increase the stress hormones, so you will feel much more stressed the more coffee that you drink. If possible, replace your coffee with a beverage which contains less caffeine, such as green tea. Green tea is a natural product and it can reduce stress levels.

Sit back and try guided imagery. This is when you close your eyes and picture yourself in the most calming surroundings. This has to be a place where you would feel calm and relaxed and not have distractions all around you. Picture every small detail of your quiet place and concentrate on them. You will feel much better in a few minutes.

Close your eyes and visualize a calm scene. This scene may be different for everybody, but studies show that this is a viable method for reducing stress. Try to remember the last time you felt warm, cozy, happy and relaxed. Put your mind back into that situation. If you can’t think up anything, imagine you are a lump of butter, under the hot, soothing sun. Feel yourself melting, melting, until you are totally relaxed.

Listen to calming music. When you are feeling stressed out, one of the best things to do is to put on some soothing music and listen. Have some relaxing music available so that when you start feeling stressed you can just put on some music and distract yourself with the sounds.

Talking to someone about the stress you’re feeling, can help you feel much better. You might find that the person you’re talking to can help you think of ways to de-stress, or help you come up with ways to solve any problems that you might be having.

Get organized. By getting yourself organized, you can cut down on the feelings of stress you feel from being overwhelmed. To fight that feeling, make a list of what you need to do each day. Follow your list and you won’t forget anything. What’s more, you won’t feel stress from wondering whether you are getting everything done.

As you can see, being kind to yourself really isn’t that hard, and it sure feels better than being stressed and angry. Don’t underestimate the ill effects of stress on your health. Factor the above tips into your daily habits, and you will be making a very positive investment in your health and your life.
