According to a researcher and professor, Adrian North who specializes in applied psychology of music, found some interesting relationships between music genre preference and our personality traits. Stress Does Not Have To Control Your Life

Do you ever wish you had a magic pill that could stop your stressed out feelings? Stress can be like an uncontrollable monster at times. We know stess is bad for our health, but sometimes we can’t help getting sucked into the latest crisis at work or home. The following may provide some helpful pointers to get you back to a calm state.

To handle stress in your life, start by minimizing stress in your life. Something as simple as laying out your work clothing for the next day can give you a better start in the morning; it may give you a few extra minutes to relax as well, instead of running around looking for a stray shoe or favorite blue sweater.

A great and simple way to reduce your stress level is to take a break, even if it’s just a minute or two. By stepping away from a stressful situation, you are allowing yourself to rejuvenate and recover for a few short minutes. By letting your body relax and your stress hormones to reduce, you are giving yourself a fresh start at the project at hand. With a new perspective after your small break, you might find that the task at hand isn’t as stressful as it first seemed.

If you are under pressure, one of the things that you can do is lift weights. When you contract your muscles, you will reduce the tension on your body and feel good about yourself. Do this in the comfort of your own home or at the gym to reduce stress levels.

Before you do or say anything you might regret, stop and count to 10. Take a moment away from the thing or person causing you stress and get yourself together. Take a few deep breaths, recite an affirmation, or stretch. Do whatever it takes to re-center yourself, and get rid of the stress.

In order to manage your stress, take a vacation. This is important because often times people will think that taking a vacation is not possible due to their work load, despite having the vacation time. Many times a change of scenery can help you obtain a clear head and help you straighten things out and get a fresh perspective on them.

Stress can cause some people to cope in a negative way such as alcohol and drugs. They see this as the only way to combat the overwhelming stress they feel in their daily lives. Drugs including alcohol, however, are never the solution to your problems. Far from fixing what’s wrong, drugs and alcohol will just add another layer of complexity to your existing issues.

When it comes to dealing with stress, one great way to manage it is by learning an instrument. This is important because this is a wonderfully creative way to express your emotions and clear your body of stress. Not only are you helping to relax yourself, but you may also provide good music to other people.

A great way to deal with your stress is to go to church. This is a great way to deal with stress because you not only will have the support of other people, but you can focus on what is important in life. Through prayer you may find all of the answers needed to remove stress from your life.

Patience is one of the most vital things to have when you are trying to limit the amount of stress that you face during the day. Try not to put so much pressure on yourself to get things done immediately. Tell yourself that in time, things will come, to reduce your internal strain.

One easy way to reduce stress is to disconnect yourself from the outside world for a while. Turn off the computer, turn off the phone, turn off the TV and just sit and read a book for a while. The people who need to get in touch with you can wait for you to check your voicemail.

Creative writing is an excellent outlet for dealing with stress. Writing poetry or keeping a journal can provide a way to express your feelings so that you can deal with them instead of keeping them bottled up inside. By writing down your problems and analyzing them, you can help reduce your stress.

Make time for meditation. It will help your muscles relax and allows for the conscious mind to get some rest. If you find the time to mediate on a regular basis, you are sure to feel much more relaxed in your everyday activities. This can help you get a handle on stress even in very tense situations.

Categorize your stress. Put your stress into two categories – things you have control over and things you have no control over. Try to let go of the things that you can’t control. For the things that you can actively change, make a plan of action and try to stick to it.

Every night before you go to sleep, make a list of that day’s most stressful events. Identify the long-term issues that you can do nothing about and eliminate them from the list. Next prioritize those that are left by writing the solution to each item. Begin with the little things and concentrate on solving at least one item on the list the following day. Soon you will see your daily cares melting away instead of growing into mountains by being proactive and focused.

Many reports talk about rising cortisol levels and other hormones that increase when we are under stress. These excess circulating hormones, can cause other health problems and it really makes sense to learn useful techniques for controlling, managing or just letting go of stress so that you can get back to enjoying your life.
